Early Life & Education

Leati Joesph Anoa’i, better known as Roman Reigns was born in Pensacola, Florida on May 25th. He is the son of former professional wrestler Sika Anoa’i. His uncle, Afa Anoa’i was also a professional wrestler. Together, Sika and Afe were known as The Wild Samoans during their in-ring careers.

Roman Reigns’ brother as well as cousins The Rock, Rikishi, Umaga, Yokozuna and The Tonga Kid are all former professional wrestlers as well. In short, he comes from a professional wrestling family.

While he hailed from a wrestling family, Roman Reigns chose to play football in his early life. He played for three years at Pensacola Catholic High School and one year at Escambia High School. In college, he played for Georgia Tech Yellow jackets football team.

Roman Reigns’ went undrafted in the 2007 NFT Draft. It is with this that he joined the offseason team for the Minnesota Vikings. He also played one season for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Professional Career

Roman Reigns’ professional career dates back to 2010. This is when he signed a contract with the WWE after training with his father and uncle. He later signed for Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). Here, he started training with Dusty Rhodes and Steve Keirn.

Reigns made his televised debut on August 19, 2010, under the ring name of Roman Leakee. In 2012, he made his WWE TV debut at Survivor Series. This was as a member of the faction called The Shield.

After the end of The Shield, Roman Reigns ventured on his own as a singles competitor. He went on to win the 2015 Royal Rumble to a negative reaction. In 2018, he went on hiatus after being diagnosed with leukemia.
