A Calling That Began Early
What does it mean to exist in life centered on a foundation of faith, service, and a “willingness to go to the farthest corners of the earth?” For Chet Lowe, those words spell out his call to ministry, a call that came at a remarkably young age. Growing up in the Bahamas as a Christian in a family that sought to instill mercy, service, and a pragmatic piety in young Chet’s life, he began his ministry “at the age of seven by sponsoring and operating a Vacation Bible School in the family garage.
His view of ministry broadened internationally as a teenager. At thirteen years old, he went with a youth mission team to help build a church in South Korea, and this year he went to Liberia to build a school. These missions reaffirmed his belief that Christian service did not have to be done only within a familiar community.
Serving Communities in Difficult Circumstances
After marriage to Andrea in 1994 though begins one of the most important periods in the life of Pastor Chet Lowe. In 1995, he and his wife moved to Liberiathe midst of civil war. His ministry there involved church planting and humanitarian relief efforts.
While in Liberia they assisted in the planting of 17 churches and they created Joseph’s Brethren, which is a ministry that works with boys and girls damaged by the conflict, including former child soldiers. It is estimated that after three years more than 1500 children entered into foster care and rehabilitation programs based on biographical sources.
Throughout this time a central aspect of Lowe’s view of ministry is that of faith exemplified in service. Instead of confining any ministry to the domain of preaching and church, Lowe has continually pointed to the importance of relationship service discipleship and the taking of one into another’s life in the midst of life-changing hardship.
Developing a Broader Ministry Vision
Following their return to the United States, Pastor Chet Lowe was on staff at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. His duties included counseling ministries for couples singles single parents, foster care, missions, and others. Pastor also completed his Master of Christian Counseling.
Later, in 2005, he started Patmos: Reality Discipleship a young-adult discipleship program, which after a couple of years would expand in various locations in the world including Florida California the Bahamas, Brazil, and El Salvador.
Turning Experience Into a Living Message
Author Chet Lowe has also written Living Parable, which describes life as astage to showcase one’s faith and personify it with the use of everyday life situations.
