Upcoming Hyundai Ai3 Micro SUV – What to Expect

Hyundai is set to launch a new micro SUV that will challenge Tata Punch, which has already made its way into India’s top 10 best-selling cars. It has become the market leader in the segment, averaging monthly sales of over 12k units.

The car is said to be internally codenamed Ai3 and is expected to be launched by early 2024. It is likely to rival the likes of Citron C3, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.

It is based on the brand’s K1 platform and will get Hyundai’s new design language, ‘ Sensuous Sportiness.’ In addition, the SUV will also get Hyundai’s Parametric Dynamism design philosophy, which will be spotted on models like the Tucson in India.

Engines and Transmission

India will offer two engine options: a 1.5-liter turbo petrol and a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol. The former is good for 118 PS and 172 Nm, while the latter is capable of 83 PS and 114 Nm. Both engines will come with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox.

This small SUV is expected to be priced at Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). The car will take on entry-level compact SUVs as well as tall hatchbacks.

It will continue to compete with Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Volkswagen Virtus, among others. In addition, it is expected to offer some exciting features such as a semi-digital instrument console, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a steering wheel with mounted controls.

First Spy Shots of Ai3micro SUV

A couple of months ago, a spy video was leaked online by a YouTube channel @acgoon, which revealed that Hyundai is working on a new sub-compact SUV that will compete with the Tata Punch. It is currently spied testing in Korea and looks very different from the Casper hatchback it is based on.

Moreover, this SUV will have some design elements similar to the Venue compact SUV’s styling. For example, it is expected to feature projector headlamps, differently styled rear tail lamps, and roof rails.

Regarding interiors, the Ai3 will likely have a spacious cabin equipped with auto climate control, rear air vents, keyless entry, USB chargers, etc. In addition, it should be able to support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The Ai3 will feature a sunroof, H-shaped DRLs, projector headlamps, roof rails, and a shark fin antenna. It may also have a digital instrument panel with a touchscreen display and an electric sunroof.

The Hyundai Ai3 could also feature features in the Grand i10 Nios, such as a sunroof, H-shaped LED DRLs, and a digital instrument panel with a touch screen. In addition, it could be backed by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated and 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine that is good for 82 PS and 114 Nm.
