Spider-Man installment Spider-Verse Marvel’s acclaimed multiversal animated franchise will arrive in India for a four-day extended opening weekend frame starting Friday. The film will open in a broader release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, and Bengali. The film is expected to set a new benchmark for animation films at the Indian box office.
With a budget of over Rs. 150 crores, the film aims to be a blockbuster at the domestic box office and a strong competitor to Bollywood’s blockbuster Baaghi 2.
Like its predecessor, the sequel will see Miles Morales catapulted across the Multiverse to battle villainous entities from alternate universes. The main characters from the previous movie – Shameik Moore as Miles, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson as Peter Parker – will return for this outing. In addition, the voice cast will include Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, Daniel Kaluya as Hobart’ Hobie’ Brown, Spider-Punk, Shea Whigham as George Stacy, and Jorma Taccone as the Vulture. In addition, SFX magazine claims that Kathryn Hahn will return as Doc Ock in a more significant role, although no details have been revealed yet.
The story will focus on the conflict between the Spider-People and the Spider Society, a team of heroes protecting the Multiverse’s existence. The film will also feature two of the worlds seen in the 2021 teaser – Mumbatten (Earth-70101), a colorful realm inspired by Syd Mead’s neo-futuristic illustrations, and Nueva York, which is Spider-Man 2099’s neo-noir city of futuristic architecture. Other locations included are Miles’s World (Earth-1610), Spider-Gwen’s London (Earth-65), and the watercolor universe of Spider-Punk’s New London (Earth-138).
Director Joaquim Dos Santos has promised more action, humor, and emotional drama for this sequel. He has also promised to expand the movie’s palette with more colors and diverse character designs.
Fans have been shipping Gwen and Miles since Into the Spider-Verse, so seeing how their relationship plays out in the new film will be interesting. Amy Pascal, the film’s executive producer, described Across the Spider-Verse as a “love story” between Miles and Gwen.
The last thing fans want to hear is that Tom Holland or Zendaya won’t appear in the new film as Spider-Man, but the movie’s producers still need to rule out an appearance for both. So instead, fans can expect to visit the Bar With No Name, where Spider-Punk and Hobie hang out (Earth-138). Other potential Spider-Verse stars who might make a cameo include Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker and John Mulaney as Spider-Ham.
